Online Notarizations for Texas Apostilles
Good news! The Texas Secretary of State now accepts documents that have been properly notarized by a Texas online notary for an apostille.
This can make the process much easier, especially if you are outside of Texas or even outside the United States.
Online Notarizations Receive the Same Apostille
A document properly notarized by a commissioned Texas online notary can be submitted to the Texas Secretary of State for an apostille.
The apostille issued by the State of Texas is the same apostille issued for a document signed and notarized in person with a traditional wet-ink signature.
But Will the Foreign Country Accept It?
This is the important part.
Even though Texas accepts a properly completed online notarization for an apostille, the country where you plan to use the document may have different rules.
Some foreign countries or receiving authorities may not accept a document that was notarized online, even when the document has received an apostille from the Texas Secretary of State.
For that reason, we recommend checking with the embassy, consulate, or authority receiving your document before choosing online notarization.
Ask them a simple question:
“Will you accept a document that was notarized online in Texas and then issued a Texas apostille?”
Texas Online Notary Services Are Available
Texas Apostille Service can also assist clients who need online notarization.
Our online notary is commissioned in Texas and regularly performs online notarizations for documents that will be submitted for a Texas apostille.
Online notarization can be a convenient option because you do not have to be physically present with the notary. This can be especially helpful for clients who live outside the Austin area or are currently living abroad.
Requirements for Online Notarization
The State has two important requirements for signers requesting an online notarization:
1. The signer must be a U S citizen
2. The signer must pass a state-mandated identity verification test before the notarization can be executed.
Not sure which option is right for you?
We are happy to help you understand the Texas requirements and determine whether your document can be prepared using an online notarization.
Just remember: Texas may accept the online notarization, but the final decision about accepting your document belongs to the country or authority where the document will be used.
When in doubt, confirm their requirements before having your document notarized.
Whether you need one document or a full package prepared for use abroad, Texas Apostille Service is happy to help.
We love working with our online notary clients, wherever they are in the world.
Our fee is $35.00 per notarized signature
